Greenhouse Farming in Monsoon Season

Monsoon seasonal farming contributes a large portion of vegetable production in India. As the availability of water is high,we can produce vegetables in almost all parts of our  farm land. But in this year,Monsoon is so strong that major portion of the production is lost due to heavy wind, flooding, diseases etc.So it is the time to think how we can save our farmland from Monsoon attack. The answer is by using Greenhouse Farming Technology.

The main advantages of Greenhouse farming during Monsoon Season are

  • Protection from Heavy wind:As heavy damages are caused by Wind, protection against wind is very important.Greenhouse shelter can provide complete protection against wind.
  • Protection from Diseases:As Monsoon atmosphere is suitable for multiplication of micro organisms, plants are vulnerable to many diseases.Greenhouse structure prevents these micro organisms from entering inside Greenhouses and keep the plants safe.
  • Protection against Heavy rainfall
  • Protection against Flooding :As we build Greenhouse shelters in a safe location,we can provide protection against Flooding.
  • Protection from Pets:During Monsoon Season,Number of Pets increase exponentially.Greenhouse shelter prevent pets from entering inside and attack plants.
  • Off-seasonal farming possible:There are number of plants which do not grow during monsoon season.Inside Greenhouses we can provide suitable atmosphere for them and thus off-seasonal farming is possible.
Besides these there are so many advantages like increased production,Good control over production, quality production etc.For more information about Greenhouse farming, please read below posts.

As per the Economic study conducted among farmers of Kerala,Coconut farmers are able to generate an income of 300 to 500 per tree per year.If they start to produce Neera, they can generate 4000 to 6000 per year per tree.So production of Neera can contribute a huge positive Impact on Coconut farming sector in Kerala. This could raise Kerala GDP around 20% more which will help whole Kerala economy.

The other benefit of the decision is the Employment generation. Now in Kerala, there are around 30000 toddy tappers working. Kerala to Start Commercial Production of Neera

Finally, after realizing the possibilities of Neera (Sweet Toddy), Kerala Government plans to start Neera production across the state. After the discussion with Toddy tappers association, Excise minister K Babu announced that Government will start production of Neera keeping the interest of Toddy tappers safe. This decision was very much important as there was a steady decline in Toddy business across Kerala and the coconut farmers were so disappointed because of the low revenue they are getting from their land.

First phase consists of around 1500 Coconut trees in each district .These 1500 trees will be considered as a Unit. There will be two units in districts like Kollam,Pathanamthitta, Thiruvananthapuram as the Toddy business is less profitable there.Federations and companies affiliated to Coconut Board will have the permission to extract Neera.

The pilot phase will start with the help of Kerala Agricultural University,we developed technologies for extracting Neera. The technology ensures that Neera will remain as Zero Alcoholic Drink after the processing and packing. For allowing commercial production of Neera,Government needs to change some definitions in Abkari Act.

As per the study conducted by Kerala Agricultural university,The production of Neera will bring a prosperous future for Coconut farmers.Other states like Karnataka and Goa already started the production of Neera. So we should be able to start Neera production at full strength before the catch the market.
